Waking Ned Devine

In the coastal village of Tullymore, in southern Ireland, the elderly Jackie O'Shea discovers one day that one of the residents has won the lottery. He talks about it with his longtime friend Michael O'Sullivan, and together they decide to investigate to find the winner, become friends with them, and share the winnings. After several failed attempts, they go to Ned Devine's house and find him dead, with the winning ticket in his fingers and a frozen smile on his face. Ned lives alone, and if the winnings are not claimed, they will be lost. Jackie and Michael then come up with an idea: Michael can impersonate Ned and collect the winnings on his behalf. The charade is organized, but problems arise when the Dublin notary demands to verify Ned's identity with the other villagers.
